Focusing and Dreams

Focusing and Dreams

with Nada Lou

Once you learn how to hold the dream in a focusing way, the felt sense will give you support, interpretation and the next step for carrying forward your situation.

In this Workshop you will learn an approach to dream interpretation that is unique in that it is not limited to any theory or belief system. The basic touchstone of this approach is your own bodily experience of something opening in you - a physically felt sense.

In conjunction with focusing and listening to your own body's knowing, this method of interpreting your dreams draws its wisdom from your felt sense and can be taught and learned. Some familiarity with the felt sense is necessary for an easy transition from Focusing to the "Let your body interpret your dreams" approach.

You will be able to pay attention to how your felt sense reflects in and out of your dreams. Once you learn how to hold the dream in a focusing way, and let the felt sense, not the content of the dream, connect to your situation, the felt sense will give you support, interpretation and the next step for carrying forward your situation.

Any dream brings you closer to this bodily known wisdom. Your body can open up to your inner knowing spontaneously in the dream, because it can bypass the usual daily intrusion of thoughts and patterns that prevent you from being in touch with your felt sense.

There is a natural organic resource within each of us, a bodily felt sense for the next step in life. Although this resource has been sensed in many different ways by people throughout the ages, it is still a greatly uncultivated and under researched faculty of human nature.

Whether you have a subtle inspiration or a great motivation to create something new but don't seem to be able to move forward with it, or you are troubled by tension and unresolved issues, your body holds within it meanings for your personal next steps. This bodily "felt sense" isn't just getting in touch with feelings. It is a special way of sensing mind/body/spirit unity inwardly.

By tapping into this source, you can discover a key to what isn't clear about your personal situation. Your body knows how you carry the whole of this situation and how to move forward to the next creative step or resolution. If you can only discover how to be with its natural process, your body will open up the doors to vast and boundless wisdom.

In research at the University of Chicago, Dr. Gendlin, the creator of Focusing, found that certain specific bodily responses can open up and lead to small steps of new experience. These bodily responses can indicate the steps for interpreting dreams.
